Call Management Expert Score

Do We Recommend Flowroute?
Flowroute is an Average Performer based on its mixed ratings across independent review platforms of 3.8, which suggests there is room for growth in both its features and customer satisfaction. Businesses seeking added functionalities or seamless integrations may need to consider alternatives. While it provides basic call management features, Flowroute lacks the innovation, scalability, and reliability to compete with top-rated businesses.

Now that you’ve seen the feature list, let’s break down how each capability impacts real-world Call Management.

Vanity Numbers

Flowroute keeps a large inventory of vanity numbers — alphanumeric ones that spell out a word, or memorable number patterns — that you can search and purchase through the portal or via the Numbers API. A vanity toll-free number runs a higher monthly rate than a standard DID, and numbers in high-demand areas carry a premium, but the process is self-service and instant. You can port an existing vanity number over from another carrier too, and Flowroute’s in-house porting team handles that without the weeks-long back-and-forth that usually comes with number transfers.

Toll-Free Numbers

Flowroute has toll-free numbers across all major prefixes — 800, 888, 855 and others — available for US and Canada, with no contracts or setup headaches. You can assign different toll-free numbers to different campaigns, channels, or departments and run reports on each to see which ones are generating the most calls. The numbers support both voice and SMS from the same DID, so a customer who texts your support line can also call the same number without you needing a separate number for each channel. Call forwarding, caller ID, E911, and CNAM are all available on top.

Real-Time Reporting

Flowroute’s management portal gives you live data on both voice and messaging traffic — call records, message direction, delivery status, billing info, and timestamps, all updating in real time. For SMS and MMS specifically, you can pull message-level detail including content and status through the portal or the API. For voice, CDRs update as calls complete so you’re not waiting for a batch export to see what traffic ran through your numbers. The portal also shows usage-to-cost breakdowns so billing surprises don’t show up at the end of the month.

Interactive Voice Response (IVR)

IVR on Flowroute is built through the voice API and webhook layer rather than a visual drag-and-drop builder. When a call comes in, Flowroute fires a webhook to your application, your app handles the logic — play a prompt, collect input, route accordingly — and Flowroute executes the instruction. It takes more development work upfront than a packaged IVR product, but you end up with a system that behaves exactly as your application dictates, with no limits on how many layers deep it can go or how complex the routing logic gets.

Call Recording

Flowroute supports call recording through its programmable voice API — you build it into the call flow at the application layer, choosing when it starts, when it stops, and where files land. It’s not a one-click setting in the portal, but for developers building applications where recording needs to slot into a specific part of the call flow — after consent prompts, during transfers, or only for certain call types — that programmatic control matters more than convenience. Storage and retrieval are handled by your application, which also means retention policies stay in your hands.

Call Analytics

Flowroute’s CDR API pulls detailed call records across your voice traffic — where calls came from, where they went, how long they ran, what they cost, and how they were routed. You can query and filter by any combination of parameters and the results export to an encrypted file for download. For contact centers tracking which numbers carry the most volume, where calls drop, or how costs break down by campaign, the CDR data gives you everything you need to make sense of traffic patterns without relying on a third-party analytics layer on top.

Inbound Call Tracking

Flowroute lets you assign different local or toll-free numbers to different campaigns, ad channels, or traffic sources and track performance per number through CDRs and the portal. Assign one number to a print ad, another to a Google campaign, another to your website, and the call data tells you which ones are actually driving calls. Numbers are provisioned instantly through the portal or the Numbers API, so spinning up a new tracking number for a campaign takes minutes, not days waiting for carrier provisioning.

Call Filtration

Flowroute has account-level fraud controls that filter outbound traffic based on rules you set — rate limits per destination, manual blacklists for destinations you never want calls going to, destination whitelisting while the platform learns your traffic patterns, and automatic alerts when activity spikes to unfamiliar destinations. On the inbound side, routing rules let you define primary and failover routes per number, so traffic filters through the path you intend rather than defaulting to one option when something fails.

Automatic Call Distribution (ACD)

Flowroute doesn’t ship a packaged ACD product, but it gives contact centers the SIP trunking infrastructure to build one. Advanced SIP signaling carries rich call data — caller ID, diversion headers, P-Asserted-Identity — that lets your contact center platform make intelligent routing decisions before a call reaches an agent. Unlimited concurrent call channels mean capacity never blocks a call from getting through, and CDRs give you the workforce management data to figure out where distribution logic needs adjusting. If you’re already running a CCaaS platform, Flowroute plugs into it as the carrier layer underneath.

API and Third-Party Integrations

Flowroute’s REST APIs cover voice, SMS/MMS, and number management — all through a single integration point rather than separate APIs for each service. SDKs are available in Ruby, PHP, Python, Node.js, and .NET. The platform also supports SIP trunking with existing PBX and CCaaS systems, so teams don’t need to replace what’s already running to add Flowroute’s voice and messaging capabilities. Webhooks handle inbound call and message events in real time, so your application reacts immediately without polling.

CPaaS

Flowroute is a 100% cloud-based, self-service CPaaS built around developer-friendly APIs for voice and messaging. It was the first natively IP voice service provider to become an official nationwide carrier in the US, which means calls go directly through Flowroute’s own network rather than through a middleman. The patented HyperNetwork technology dynamically reroutes inbound DIDs if something in the network path fails, so calls reach their destination even when something between the caller and your system goes wrong. No contracts, no minimum commits, and white-label SIP options for resellers who want to offer voice under their own brand.

Positive reviews:

“Price and portal were easy to use. Value was good. No issues connecting to our PBX. Have multiple clients using them now.” – Stuart H. ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ January 15, 2024

“The support team is great. They are helpful and get back to me quickly. I also don’t think we ever had any considerable downtime with Flowroute.” – David S. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ April 12, 2021

Negative reviews:

“Flowroute has let my business down, and I have already switched to a different provider. I will be porting any remaining numbers from Flowroute as soon as possible. We submitted our 10DLC registration for company text messaging 23 days ago, yet there has been no progress on our tickets. Our text messaging capabilities have been disabled, causing us significant business losses. Avoid Flowroute at all costs.” – Verified User in Information Technology and Services ⭐☆☆☆☆ May 18, 2024

“I do not often write reviews, but I have had one of the worst experiences with FlowRoute. We had been a customer since 2014; things started to get bad in 2023 shortly after BCM One acquired FlowRoute. The support is about as bad as it gets under BCM One. Our customers had network issues and call drops which they blamed our infrastructure. We spent weeks wasting time with their support, only to find out it was an issue with AWS and overloaded load balancers on their end. Decided to fire them only to find the porting process and communication was even worse than the VoIP service issues. It took over three weeks to get all the customers moved over to Voxtelesys because of the games that the FlowRoute porting folks were playing. Avoid Flowroute, avoid BCM One!” – Kent D. ⭐☆☆☆☆ February 26, 2025

Negative reviews:

“Flowroute abruptly shut down our account without a single notice after years as a paying customer. Since we used it as a backup, we only discovered months later that we had been locked out. When we raised a ticket, they responded that they had decided to stop serving customers outside the US and Canada. Not only did they cut us off without warning, but they also kept our remaining balance. This is unprofessional, irresponsible, and frankly dishonest behavior. A company that treats long-term customers like this should not be trusted.” – Pad Anius ⭐☆☆☆☆ September 24, 2025

“Tried to use this for my business VOIP needs, and they terminated my account after an ID verification and a manual review. I have not had the same issues with their competitors. Very incompetent and low IQ Manual Review team. The only reason given for the termination was ‘extreme inconsistencies.’ What the hell does that even mean? How many scam call centers squeeze by their crack-team of Manual Review geniuses each day?” – Spencer B ⭐☆☆☆☆ August 1, 2025

Positive reviews:

“We use Flowroute for all digital phone routing & SIP services. They’ve been fantastic—we got all of our phone numbers from them, they handled all SIP routing for us, and it’s worked flawlessly for years. Zero complaints and only positive things to say about them. Works perfectly if you’re using a DIY SIP VoIP system. Our phones were powered by Asterisk with Flowroute handling all of the actual SIP traffic. No issues whatsoever.” – Noah Lehmann-Haupt ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ August 29, 2021
